3. Hi-Lo

Number of players:

2-20 players

Suitable Age:

5-99 years

Playing Time:

5-10 minutes

Introduction

Play Hi-Lo if you want a quick and easy game, or if you have a large number of players. You can play this game with up to 20 players, using just one deck.

What do you need?

A pack of Multi Playing Cards.

Set up

All cards are shuffled and one of the players is chosen to be the dealer. The dealer makes a face-down pile of cards, called the stock.

Basic Rules

The dealer draws a card from the stock and places the Multi Playing Card face up on the table. The dealer announces the number shown on that card. The dealer then ask the opponent if the value of the next card from the stock will be higher or lower than the card on the table. The opponent chooses: either higher or lower and announces his or her choice out loud. The dealer then draws the top card from the stock. If the opposing player got it right (the card is indeed higher or lower, depending on his or her choice), then the opponent takes the two cards and puts them in front of him/her. If the opponent got it wrong, he or she loses and the dealer takes the two cards. This goes on until there are no more cards left in the stock. The player who has the most card at this point, wins the game. The cards are reshuffled and the opponent becomes the dealer.

You can also play Hi-Lo with more than two players, in which case the basic rules still apply. The winner gets the cards and the dealer asks the same question to the next player in line. If there are no more cards in stock all players and the dealer count their cards. The player (including the dealer) with the most cards wins the game and becomes the next dealer.

If two or more players have the same number of cards at the end of the game, these players play Hi-lo against each other, using only their own cards as stock. If there are no more cards in anyone stock every player counts their winning cards. This mechanic is used until there is one clear winner. This player will be the dealer in the next game.

We wish you a lot of card guessing fun. Good luck!

What do you need?

A deck of Multi Playing Cards and the Dealer button on the Multi Tuck box.

Set up

Shuffle all cards and decide which of the players is going to be the dealer for the first round.

Basic Rules

The dealer draws a card from the stock and places the Multi Playing Card face up on the table. The dealer announces the number shown on that card. The dealer then ask the opponent if the value of the next card from the stock will be higher or lower than the card on the table. The opponent chooses either higher or lower and announces his or her choice out loud. The dealer then draws the top card from the stock. If the opposing player got it right (the card is indeed higher or lower, depending on his or her choice),the player wins. If the player has it wrong, he or she loses.

But here comes the twist!

If a player has given the right answer, the player doesn’t get the cards that he won immediately. The player’s turn continues if the player so chooses. As long as the player is confident that he or she can guess the next card correctly, the turn stays with the player at hand. He or she can, however, also choose to stop if so inclined.
If the player decides to stop, all open cards on table are for that player except for the last one. So would you take the risk and continue to win even more cards or do you fold and secure the cards you already have?

If a player has given the wrong answer, all face up cards on the table are for the dealer, except the last one drawn. The player who gave the wrong answer, immediately becomes the new dealer and the game continues.

How to win

The player who has the highest number of cards at the end of the entire game is the winner.

Tip!

Play safe and try to remember the cards that are already out of play. And, as with all gambling games; stop at the right moment.
